An oil and hand sanitizer print from my portfolio work titled We're Not Inside. The work is my response to this year in which I consider contrasting themes of control and vulnerability, and openness and isolation while also thinking about space and movement and how this has been affected over this period. These works began as experiments using the cooking oil as a material that will not dry or evaporate without active intervention – I was drawn to this greasy quality of the material. My use of hand sanitizer intended to reflect on its sudden vital relevance that emerged as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic while also intending to be a reactionary material to the cooking oil.
