After the release of his 2019 EP Zithande (A Story About Self Love), Robin
Thirdfloor returns with Zazi (A Story About Self Awareness) which is a follow
up to the EP about self-love. Zazi is isiZulu for “know yourself” and it comes as no
surprise that the Durban based hip hop artist is taking on this subject matter. On this
EP Robin tackles self-awareness amongst other topics like the world needing more
positivity than hate, his journey within the music industry, finding himself and success
achieved by being himself. This EP resembles Robin at his most confident self, from
the raps to singing. The confidence shines on songs like Awareness, Ukuphila and
Shampopo. On Awareness he sets the mood of the project by touching on what the
world is going through now with Covid and then going onto mention the various
challenges black youth face. Shampopo, a celebratory song is about working hard
during the week and looking forward to enjoying the weekend and Ukuphila is a
youthful celebratory song about living life to the fullest. You find songs like Abantu
and also Cash wami which also take you into the rapper’s life and how it's changed over the years.

On songs like Mlingo and Lerato (Uyajola), Robin switches up to a
little singing which also fits nicely in the neo-kwaito laid back production. Robins
assisted songs Weekend and Izinja stand out of the project. Weekend features
songstress Rhea Blek and rapper Just Jabba who both add strong contributions to
the smooth summer time like production. On Izinja Robin features one of
Umlazi’s prominent kasi rappers Young Cannibal who brings his usual hard hitting
bars to the song.

The EP is produced entirely by Robin’s frequent collaborator rapper and
producer Jabulani Cindi
