This project required us to create a work using two materials or objects as a starting point from which to draw inspiration. My chosen materials were a box of carpet cut offs and cloth. The work came out of an instinctive need to take the material apart, a fidget motion of some sort; tearing at each woven carpet strip, unravelling it down to its thin and delicate fragments. It grew from there in its similarity to the visual structures of neurological pathways, here more directly relating to my attention deficit disorder. The work speaks to the restlessness and distraction that drew me to this action of taking apart the material. The work exists as a process of deconstruction, unravelling and untangling of the materials.
